Site Manager

Underbelly Ltd. (UB) is looking for experienced festival Site Managers with knowledge of working on a large range of seasonal festivals. They will be reporting to the Underbelly Production Manager for all Christmas festival activities in central London. These are fixed term positions with successful candidates availability from 23rd October 2019 until of 13th January 2019.

Job Description/ Role:

Site Build & Strike

  • To work as part of a site management team made of up of two site managers, line managed and supported by the Production Manager.
  • To work alongside the Technical Manager, Construction Manager and Crew Chief overseeing and managing all contractors working onsite.
  • To ensure that all contractors/suppliers/staff working onsite are accredited and authorised.
  • To ensure that all contractors/suppliers/staff working onsite are fully briefed in UB Health and Safety policies.
  • To manage site/event security teams to ensure that access, site safety and security on the site/event is properly controlled and documented.
  • In collaboration with the Production Manager ensure that our contractors are following the correct specifications given to them and that they are working within the schedule allocated to them.
  • To supervise the movement and construction of a sterile site perimeter, plant and deliveries to and from the site.
  • To monitor and manage the relationship with local businesses, residents and stakeholders.
  • To manage the build/strike schedule on behalf of the Production Manager.


  • Overall responsibility for site operations during the festival period, reporting to the Production Manager and Winter Operations Manager.
  • To work as a member of the site technical team.
  • To manage event security to ensure that access to the site, site safety and security is properly controlled and documented.
  • Working with the Underbelly Bar Management team to deliver a world class Winter/Christmas experience.
  • Managing the Christmas Grotto FOH teams.
  • Managing the Christmas market stall operators and suppliers.
  • Directly liaising with the venue production team on all site/venue related issues.
  • To ensure that the site is ready and open on time, each day to host the festival.
  • To ensure that the site is correctly closed and secured at the correct time as per operational scheduling.
  • To carry out any maintenance as might be necessary across all site/event infrastructure and plant.
  • To ensure all management plans are adhered to.
  • To monitor and manage the relationship with local businesses, residents and stakeholders.
  • To ensure that the venues are fully working and to manage the temperature control of spaces.
  • To ensure power and distribution to the site is constantly monitored and maintained.


Person Specification: 


  • Experience of site management in a festival setting.
  • A strong technical background in events, especially generator and temporary power distribution systems installation, maintenance and management.
  • A strong knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • Weekends and late evening work essential.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good IT knowledge and use.


  • A reasonable knowledge of site carpentry. 
  • A reasonable knowledge of temporary event structures.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Fork lift/Telehandler licence – experienced.
  • Stage lighting, sound or AV knowledge.
  • Local accommodation.

Contact Details:

Fee – Operational rate of £120 - £160 per day dependant on experience. This rate is based upon receipt of invoice, UTR details and current Public Liability Insurance with a minimum indemnity of £5million.

Accommodation is not offered as part of this arrangement.

Minimum Availability – 23rd October 2019 to 13th January 2020 exclusively. Extra availability outside of these dates to be negotiated upon appointment.

Hours – average based on but not limited to 10.5 hours per day
